how to dress like a 90's girl

90's accessories

So, check it: the other night I shared some snaps from my Clueless/90’s themed birthday party, including the food, & decor, so here is my Clueless-inspired outfit!  I mostly went with clothes I already had (chosen by computer), and I happened to have the best 90’s accessories, too.  An authentic tiny backpack, as well as a chunky plastic ring that was directly from the 1990’s.  It was phat.

Unfortunately, all of my 90’s-esque baby tees weren’t seeming to fit, and I was totally buggin’.  Luckily, this t-shirt worked and I was able to finish the ensemble with some high socks.  While it might not be the perfect Cher outfit complete with matching yellow plaid jacket and skirt, and yellow cardigan… I think I came pretty close.  Plus, the fact that I didn’t need to buy anything extra for the outfit made my wallet happy, too!

There really is something to being able to get away and spend some time in the woods for a little while.  I was able to relax, read (a LOT), lay out in the sun. It was a great week away.  But I was definitely happy to be back in the city when the time came.

At my cottage, we have this nice little forest leading in, which means that we have a little bit of privacy from the main road.  We can still hear the (very few) cars going by, but not much else. It’s nice to have that kind of privacy and seclusion, while at the same time still having the option to go join people on the beach, at the park or at the Moonlight Inn.

I love Victoria Beach!

I am obsessed with this little backpack purse.  I can’t remember if I actually had one when they were popular in the 90’s, but I have one now! I was SO excited to find it at the thrift store. It’s totally authentic, too.. if you will notice the little “Whatever” tag on it haha. 😉

It’s been so hot lately that the only thing that’s remotely comfortable to wear is some kind of shorts ensemble.  These shorts are amazing! I bought some high waisted pants at the thrift store and cut them short! Perfect!

Hope you’re staying cool out there <3

40 Days of Kindness: Support

My act of kindness today came really late.  Not because I was late doing it, but because it’s something that I should have done a really long time ago.

My brother has been playing hockey for the majority of his life and tonight, for the very first time, I actually went and watched him play!  It was the championship game of his league, against the best team of the league.  Pretty big deal.  So my act of kindness was to actually support my brother by watching him play hockey!  I’ll have to do it again sometime 🙂 It was really fun!

So, in one of my classes this term, we get to participate in and present tutorials about Canadian sports.  Today was our first one, and it was put on by our prof as a way to show us what ours might look like!  It was actually really fun!  In the class so far, we’ve basically just been talking about sports after confederation (1867), and how these sports got their first rules, and how they came to be! (As an example, it’s always seen as  a “trivia topic” to know that the ~official sport of Canada~ is and how it’s always secretly been lacrosse?  Well, the only reason that it WAS the national sport of Canada, is because the man who originally codified the sport SAID it was!! So funny!)

Anyway, hockey was one of the games that we’ve been talking about.  So, for today’s “tutorial”, we played (floor) hockey by the rules from the late 19th century. Which meant, the old language (calling the face-off a Bully), no charging from behind, tripping, collaring, kicking or shinning.  Players may only pass backwards, there is no forward passing allowed! If a player on the same team as the guy with the puck is ahead of the puck, he is not allowed to touch the puck. (All of this is male because lets be real, this was an all male sport at the end of the 19th century).  And, after every goal, the teams much switch sides!  I’m not going to type them all out here, but these were a few that I found interesting.

It was really fun though! We played for about a half hour, and though we weren’t really keeping score, my team had more goals than the other team.. so we won 😉

I go back to school on Monday, so today was my last real day of holiday. Which clearly meant craft day! Also, taking pictures of myself while my husband was out.  I really enjoyed spending my last full day in a while without having to wear shoes.  I made approx 50 blank cards, so now I can start to put pictures on the fronts of them.
I am looking forward to going back to school though, which is a really weird feeling.  I love my faculty (kinesiology and recreation management) so much, that the beginning of each term is exciting.  I’ve already received an email from two of my professors as a welcome, and I’m pretty pumped to meet them, too.  It makes me happy that half of my professors are women. Last term, most of my profs were women. It was pretty awesome!
I’m also taking one of my classes with a friend of mine, which will make it even more awesome!

Can’t wait to see what this term will bring!
