I’m so ready for (more) summer weather!  I took these pictures a few weeks ago, right before we headed off to the spray pad with our friends to frolic in the cold water there because it was SO. HOT. out.  The last week has been all rain, basically all the time.  Sad.

Hi friends! I’ve been kind of MIA lately, but it’s been for such a great reason, I promise!  I’ve been preparing for several farmers markets that I am participating in this summer and I’m SO excited about them!  That, in addition to our monthly May Market, of course! 🙂 That will be this Friday/Saturday and it’s going to be awesome!! Check it out at the link above to join the group!

Otherwise, we’ve been doing a lot of hanging out.  Going to spray pads, to the park, it’s been a great summer so far!

What summery things have you been up to lately?

Alysa

2 Questions to ask yourself before putting on the bikini

2 questions to ask yourself before putting on the bikini

She was afraid to come out of the locker, she was as nervous as she could be.
She was afraid to come out of the locker, she was scared that somebody would see…

You know the song.  The Itsy-Bitsy-Teeny-Weeny Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini.  It was the first time she wore it out in public and it’s clear from the lyrics that she was NOT comfortable, and she didn’t want anyone to look at her.  In the 1960’s, when the song came out, bikini’s were just starting to come into popularity and the song actually boosted their popularity among mainstream culture.  After that, everyone “needed”
to have one. Even people who didn’t like them felt that they had to wear them.  That is not ideal though!

It’s halfway through the summer, but the pressure to don a bikini is still pretty strong. Before you put on a bikini this summer, ask yourself these two questions:

  1. Do I want to wear a bikini?
  2. Am I comfortable in a bikini?

If the answer to either of these questions is a big giant NO!! then don’t wear one. If you feel comfortable in a bikini, and you WANT to wear a bikini, you should totally wear one!  Otherwise, don’t spend your time on the beach hiding in the locker, under a blanket or in the water.  That’s no fun!

Every year, without fail, there are articles and magazine covers that scream “How to get a bikini body” or “Are you beach body ready?” and when it comes down to it, if your body is at the beach you have a beach body.  If your body is in a bikini, you have a bikini body.  If you don’t want to go to the beach or wear a bikini, that’s okay too! Do what will make you happy and comfortable. You will enjoy your summer more by far if you are comfortable 😉

How’s your summer been?  We’ve been keeping ourselves busy.  There are always things to do, and people to see.. which is just the way I like it!  Plus naps to have, and chocolate to eat.  It’s been a great summer so far, and I’m excited for the rest of it.

A lot of it is being spent in our very own back yard.  It’s nice to have a pretty good sized yard that we can roam around in.  There are rocks to pick up, and sticks to look at, and a little red slide!  Perfect for a little girl in the summer.  And next year, it’ll be perfect for a little girl and a little boy.

Our Summer Bucket List!

Our Summer Bucket List

The other night, my husband and I sat down and talked about the things that we want to do this summer.  We’re so excited for the summer and all the fun things we’re going to be able to do as a family of four this year. Plus, since we have a toddler, it’ll be even more fun because we’ll be experiencing things for the first time again through her eyes.  So excited! Here are some of the things we’d like to do this summer:

  1. Victoria Beach
My family has a cottage out at Victoria Beach, and I’m so excited to do all the things with my daughter there this year!  We’ll go to the beach (obviously), go to the park, get ice cream at the Moonlight Inn, and get smiley face cookies at the bakery.  It’s gonna be awesome!
  2. Assiniboine Park Zoo
We haven’t been to the zoo since the new Polar Bear exhibit opened last year, and I think it would be really fun to go.  Especially with the Dinosaur exhibit there, too!
  3. Strawberry Picking
There are a few places nearby where you pay for the bucket, and you pick your own strawberries.  I think it would be a lot of fun to do that with Autumn. I think she would really enjoy that.
  4. Andrew’s family cabin
It’ll be fun to see how Autumn likes the boat this year!
  5. Monarch Butterfly Festival
This event looks like so much fun!
  6. Islendingadagurinn
The Icelandic Festival in Gimli!  I’m so pumped for it. I haven’t been in a few years.
  7. Morden Corn and Apple Festival
A nearby town has an awesome festival every summer. You get free corn on the cob and free apple cider, and a bunch of other stuff! Again, I haven’t been in a few years so I’m excited to go again.
  8. Harry Potter Midnight Release Party
The last Harry Potter book came out almost 10 years ago, and McNally Robinson celebrated with a party in the park.  Well, since the release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is this summer, they’re doing it again!  I’m so pumped to go to another midnight release.  And I can’t wait to read the book 🙂

What are your plans for the summer?

Have you ever had one of those nights where you’ve been doing so many things, and you feel it’s been like 20 minutes, but when you look at the clock it’s midnight?  How is it midnight already?? you might ask yourself.

It happens to me way too often.  There are just not enough hours in the day to accomplish all the things I want to do.

Luckily, there’s always tomorrow! 😉

summer

It’s already summer, and this is looking like it’s going to be a pretty hectic one.  We have 5 weddings to go to this summer (three of which are on the same weekend), and we’re going to be spending time at the lake, and travelling.. it’s so much!  But I love it.

PLUS! Summer means summer tv.  Which means Big Brother!  I also love that! This year I’m watching it by myself, because my husband just isn’t interested… so if you want to talk about it with someone, tweet me @Alysalovely 😉

I’m also looking forward to heading to the splash pad with Autumn, and to the park, and to the beach.  It’ll be really fun showing her all the things that I love about summer.

What are your plans for this summer?

Alysa

This weeks baby bump // the only way to cool off in this heat!! My own personal pool 😉

This last week has been a real scorcher, and I’ve loved every minute of it!  I complained enough about the ridiculously cold winter we had, I’m not about to complain about this amazing summer! A real summer, too.  I think that last year it was a little bit on the cooler side, so it’s nice to get a summer like the ones I had growing up: actually really hot!  Plus, I just got a sweet kiddie pool on Varage Sale, so I’m pretty much set!  This preggo is staying cool this summer!

How was your week?
