This is 33

Last week, I celebrated my 33rd birthday!  On the actual day, I spent time with my bff and her daughter (the kids played together, mostly nicely haha) and had some amazing fried chicken from a local place for dinner with my family.  I also got my free Starbucks birthday treat, which is very important to celebrating my birthday.

On Friday, a few of us went to sing karaoke!  I did a Britney Spears themed party, where we all dressed up like our favourite rendition of our girl Britney.  I decided to do my (thrift store) take on her circus outfit, Andrew went as K.Fed, and my friends picked their own faves.  I don’t have any pictures of this, because we were ~~living in the moment 😉 😉 😉 But I’m telling you, it was awesome!

Karaoke has been a favourite of mine for years and years, and in fact I am pretty sure that I did karaoke for my 23rd birthday party, too.  I’ve been going to the same bar for all that time, too, which other places mixed in here and there, but the Limelight is a favourite of ours.  It’s changed a lot over the years and is really nice now!

We had a babysitter, and I had a designated driver, and I decided to have a few drinks!  I don’t really drink that much any more.. a side effect of being pregnant twice, and having two little ones at home.  I can’t really drink all that much all that often.  So since we had the opportunity, I had a few more drinks than I normally would have.  I was a little buzzed, but not drunk.  Not by any stretch of the imagination.  And wouldn’t you know?  The next morning I woke up with a killer headache and felt like crap all day.  It was incredibly unfair but #thisis33 😉

What’s your favourite thing to do for your birthday?

DIY Dip Dye Ombre Apron

A few months ago, I found this gorgeous apron at the thrift store.  A friend of mine had just moved out by herself so I thought it would be fun to get it for her as a gift, and then customize it a little bit.  I decided to do an ombre dip dye to modernize it a little.  I will share the instructions below.  And, I also was able to dye this shirt, also thrifted.

This post contains affiliate links. If a purchase is made through the use of one of my recommendations, I may receive a small commission, which would be a lovely little blessing for my family

Powder Dye. I used a pink Rit dye, you can find a similar one here.
An apron, or something to dye (similar)

Follow the instructions on the box to prepare your dye.  I mixed it with water in my sink, mostly because of the available counter space beside it where I could place my apron.

Put most of the apron into the sink, leaving out the parts you don’t want to dye.

Wait 5-10 minutes, depending on how dark you would like it, and move it a little bit out of the dye.

Keep doing that, 5-10 minutes at a time, until you have dyed your entire apron.

Once finished, rinse it all out with cold water and then put it through the laundry on cold by itself a few times.  After that, you’ll be good to go!

And that is how they turned out! 🙂

It’s a good day when I manage to take outfit photos before I get spit up on my clothes.  It’s an even better day when that happens and I’m wearing legitimate pre-pregnancy jeans.  These were legit my mom’s jeans, too. I kind of stole them from her. :p

I haven’t taken outfit photos in a while, for a number of reasons.  The main one being that whole spit up thing.  It’s not really a good look for me when I have some kind of spit up on my clothes.  But at the same time, I’m loving this whole mama-of-two thing.

The other reason I haven’t been able to is because most days, I have a velcro baby on my hands!  I love holding him, and carrying him, and wearing him in a carrier.. but good outfit photos don’t happen that way.  C’est la vie!

I never thought I would say this, because I’ve been a pro-summer girl pretty much my whole life, but I am looking forward to fall.  I am looking forward to wearing pants and sweaters and the like.  It’s fun to wear tiny dresses and shorts, but I’m excited for getting all warmed up and cozy.  And perfect timing.. it’s the end of August! It went by FAST, y’all! What happened to summer??

What are you looking forward to about the fall?

Life with two

These pictures are a double win.  Not only was this the first time I was able to take outfit pictures since my son was born, but I also managed to do it before anyone spit up or peed or snotted on me!  #mamawin 😉

It’s been really fun around here with two, but definitely different.  There’s always someone who needs me.  I’m constantly getting up and getting something for someone, and it’s usually right after I sat down. It can be hard, too, though.  Sometimes I have two babies crying at the same time, and two little people who require my attention at the same time.  Most of the time, I can only take care of one need at once and so someone else is unhappy with the choice.  It’s not always easy, but at the end of the day when I look back over my day, I can (usually) honestly say that I love what I’m doing.. and I think that part makes all the difference.  Even if I get frustrated. Even if we are ALL crying (though that hasn’t happened yet haha). It’s important work and I am so happy to be able to do it <3

2 weeks (or so) to go! This is gettin’ real 😉  Time to finish all the things so that we’re totally ready for baby.  I’ve been keeping on top of laundry, so hopefully we won’t have a build up like last time.  I’ve been keeping on top of general cleaning, so hopefully it won’t be a total disaster.  And I’ve got a well stocked freezer full of meals we will just need to remember to take out the night before so that they’re ready to go for the day we need them.  I want to do a big deep clean of all of my cloth diapers, including the ones that Autumn wears.  Just because it’ll be nice to do it!  We still need to get all the pictures on the walls of the nursery, and get everything in there put away.  But I feel like that’s about all!  That, and all the upcoming appointments.  I had my 38 week appointment yesterday, and Autumn has her 18 month checkup tomorrow, so it’s a busy week!  And then Mother’s Day is on Sunday, and I’m pretty excited about what we’re giving our moms for it. Can’t wait to give it to them!

At this point, my little chicken nugget is about the size of a chopped firewood log, an Oscar statuette or a bucket of fried chicken!  He’s growing really nicely in there.  He may have an inch or so of hair already, but we’ll see!  Autumn didn’t have much hair at birth, so it would be fun if he had a lot of hair.

I’ve been feeling pretty good, mostly.  I think that the B-12 injections are helping.  I was thinking about this on Sunday and I think that, overall, I really do enjoy being pregnant.  Of course, there are things that I don’t like about it.. like the fact that I’m uncomfortable, and how I have trouble staying asleep because I can’t sleep on my stomach like I really want to.. but there are so many great things about it, too.  I love seeing how my body changes to accommodate a little one.  I love seeing my midsection grow.  And, of course, the end result is pretty fabulous. <3

My Favourite Outfits from Blog Posts Past

Since I’ve been feeling like I’ve been in somewhat of a style rut lately, I decided to look back at some of the outfits I posted when I first started my blog back in 2012.  At the time, I was a university student, living in a fab apartment.  I was in my first year of marriage, and decided to start a personal style blog because I wanted to play around with what I wore more.

Here are some of my faves from the first few months of blogging:

red sweater, student style

I still love this outfit!! And I specifically remember what happened to that necklace.  I was writing a midterm and it broke and the beads went EVERYWHERE.  It was so embarrassing.  In that blog post, I said that I was going to make something new out of the necklace.  Haha so much for that, because three years later and I still haven’t.  Oh well, it’s the thought that counts, right?

student style, short skirt, my old blog posts

Still wear everything except for the skirt haha just a little too short for the things I do on a daily basis.  And I’m pretty sure I gave it away last year in my April Decluttering Challenge.  Oh Well! I love that sweater!

student style, hairband, my old blog posts

Wow. That photo is straight up blurry.  It’s so crazy what I thought passed as a good photo three years ago.  At least I tried? haha yikes!

student style, scarf, my old blog posts

That “dress” now barely covers my baby bump. True story.

I love that skirt! I can’t wait to wear it again 🙂

I find it so funny how at the time I would just take my outfit photos in my living room and it didn’t matter how junky it looked behind me, because I thought people would focus on the outfit?  In my defense, that was a REALLY cold winter.  As soon as it started getting nicer out, I started taking my photos outside with nicer backgrounds.  😉

Bump Update: 31 Weeks

baby bump maternity style, baby bump, how to dress your bump

31 weeks down, 9 to go.  I guess I’m in the 8th month, which seems pretty nuts to me.  Slow down, time!

This little baby is about the size of a pineapple or a baseball cap! He’s moving around in there so much, it’s almost at the point where it’s weird when he’s not moving.  Apparently all five of his senses are working, and he can even react to light now!  At this point when I was pregnant with Autumn, my husband tried to get her to move by shining his really high powered flashlight on my stomach, so we’ll have to try that again haha

I feel giant, and uncomfortable most of the time.  If I do too much, I get really really sore almost everywhere.  Night time has become kind of a problem because I have to actually get up to roll over… and, of course, once I get up I have to use the bathroom so that makes getting back to sleep even harder!  But otherwise, I feel pretty great.  These next 9 weeks are going to flash by, and I’m so excited to meet my little one.

I’ve officially started working on his room, too, which is so exciting!  Of course, it would probably help if I didn’t run out of certain supplies in the middle of the project, but c’est la vie 😉

baby bump style how to dress your bump

If you follow me on snapchat (un: alysalovely), you will notice that I have been wearing this sweater a lot lately.  It’s been part of what is basically my winter uniform this year.  Some kind of breastfeeding friendly top, leggings, and this sweater.  I can’t help it though! It’s been pretty cold and I prefer to be cozy to cold, so this sweater is perfect for that.

But it looks like spring is coming!! (knock on wood) At least it looks like it is in our little corner of the world.  Which means I’ll probably be able to put away this sweater at least most of the time 😉  I’m looking forward to not having to wear all the layers, and all the socks to stay warm.  It’s pretty good timing, too… my winter jacket has just gotten to the point where it’s uncomfortable when I do it up.  Time for some spring coats instead.  And, if it’s warm enough I won’t even have to do them up at all!  Gotta love the little things you never expected would be a problem until you became pregnant.

Hope you have a lovely week!

winter maternity looks, baby bump style,

Looking at all the pictures from the last time I was pregnant, and how most of them are taken outside, along with this post by Forever Amber, made me want to take some pictures outside!  So I braved the cold (on this day it was only -8*C) and finally took some outside pictures!

Let’s just say that the combination of the cold going to my brain and the fact that my brain is already being affected by pregnancy that I totally forgot how far away from my camera I needed to stand.  There were more pictures but half my body was cut off.  Haha oops!  At any rate, it was really fun to run outside and get a little bit of chilly fresh air and play around and be goofy!  I’m going to have to do this more often 😉

Hope you had a great week <3

Review: The Vintage Honey Shop Nursing Necklace

I was so excited when I got picked by The Vintage Honey Shop to review one of their nursing/teething necklaces!  Everything they post on instagram is so beautiful, and it made me so happy to be able to have one of their gorgeous necklaces.

Little: outfit from Carters

I’ve been wearing my necklace from The Vintage Honey Shop for a little over a month now.  I wanted to be sure to give a complete review on the necklace.

I pretty much love it.  I love the print, which was a complete surprise to me.  I’m finding that it goes really well with a lot of the clothes I already wear, and it’s a great length for most of the necklines on my shirts.  I enjoy wearing it and knowing that it’s not just going to fall off at any given time.  Plus, I think the ribbon is pretty great.  I also like how easy it is to clean, just a quick wash in the sink with some soap and water, let it dry, and you’re good to go!

Another huge bonus for me was the presentation of the package.  The necklace was wrapped really nicely with tissue paper, and you can tell that a lot of care and love went into it.  It was more than just receiving a necklace, it was like receiving a present from a friend.  I really loved opening up the package!

Autumn is just over 15 months old now, and so our nursing sessions are majorly distracted.  Anything else that’s going on around us is more important to look at than nursing, it seems.  So having this necklace has been amazing for nursing her.  Before we got it, she would pull my hair, scratch me, and pinch my nose.  And more.  When I wear the necklace, her focus is on that instead!  It’s fun for her to play with the necklace, and she even likes spinning it around and playing with the ribbon and bow at the back.  It has been a great help to me when I nurse her because now I don’t have to worry so much about hair loss!  She also likes playing with it (and biting it) when I’m not wearing it, so I’ll let her play with it when we’re waiting for something, too.

Overall, I really enjoy this necklace!

I received this necklace at no charge in exchange for a review, but the above is my own honest opinion.
