My Favourite Outfits from Blog Posts Past

Since I’ve been feeling like I’ve been in somewhat of a style rut lately, I decided to look back at some of the outfits I posted when I first started my blog back in 2012.  At the time, I was a university student, living in a fab apartment.  I was in my first year of marriage, and decided to start a personal style blog because I wanted to play around with what I wore more.

Here are some of my faves from the first few months of blogging:

red sweater, student style

I still love this outfit!! And I specifically remember what happened to that necklace.  I was writing a midterm and it broke and the beads went EVERYWHERE.  It was so embarrassing.  In that blog post, I said that I was going to make something new out of the necklace.  Haha so much for that, because three years later and I still haven’t.  Oh well, it’s the thought that counts, right?

student style, short skirt, my old blog posts

Still wear everything except for the skirt haha just a little too short for the things I do on a daily basis.  And I’m pretty sure I gave it away last year in my April Decluttering Challenge.  Oh Well! I love that sweater!

student style, hairband, my old blog posts

Wow. That photo is straight up blurry.  It’s so crazy what I thought passed as a good photo three years ago.  At least I tried? haha yikes!

student style, scarf, my old blog posts

That “dress” now barely covers my baby bump. True story.

I love that skirt! I can’t wait to wear it again 🙂

I find it so funny how at the time I would just take my outfit photos in my living room and it didn’t matter how junky it looked behind me, because I thought people would focus on the outfit?  In my defense, that was a REALLY cold winter.  As soon as it started getting nicer out, I started taking my photos outside with nicer backgrounds.  😉

Baby Size:
About the size of a head of romaine lettuce! (approx 18 inches or so)

Maternity clothes?
yes! My lovely belly band pants 🙂

Stretch marks?
Nope

Sleep:
I am tired ALL THE TIME, and doing the smallest things exhausts me.  If it were about not sleeping at night, I could do things at that time.. but it’s just that I’m not having quality sleep at night.

Best moment this week:
Our prenatal class! It was really interesting.

Miss anything?
I can’t start things that start after 9pm anymore.  I’m just too tired!

Movement:
Mostly big kicks to the side and to the ribs.

Labor signs:
Got some signs of Braxton Hicks.. but the early kind that I can still talk and do things through

Belly button in or out?
Still in, but it’s definitely more shallow than it used to be!

Wedding rings on or off?
Off 🙁 I had been taking them off at night and putting them back on in the morning.  On Sunday, I couldn’t get them back on easily so I figured that it’s better to leave them off now.

Happy or moody most of the time:
Pretty happy!

Looking forward to:
I am ready to be done school.  I am having a difficult time keeping up.. I haven’t fallen behind.. but there are definitely days where it’s more difficult to actually do anything.  Ready to be done foreverrrrrrr!

Next week I’ll be term.  This baby is coming quickkkkkk!!

Retreat Recovery

I feel like I always need to plan an extra day of nothing after getting back from a trip, and this past weekend is no exception!  Unfortunately, I had stats this morning at 8:30am!  I may as well have not been there for how much I actually paid attention.. but they do something called iclicker questions, so I at least will get the credit for those!

Anyway, about the retreat! It was AWESOME!  It was really great to be able to hang out with some of the girls in my group and get to know them. It was awesome to see them worship together, pray together, and just hang out together all weekend away from their regular lives.  Just an amazing weekend of meeting with Jesus!

The speaker was amazing, too 🙂 She had a lot to say and I think that the students were really able to identify with what she spoke on.  I think that the main thing that I could take home with me at the end of the weekend was the fact that God tells us that we are His MASTERPIECE.  We are all a work of art, we are ALL beautiful.  It’s so easy to forget that!  It’s easy to look in the mirror and focus on the things that we don’t like about ourselves, and I do it all the time.  But God made me, and in His eyes the way I look is perfect and I am His masterpiece.  I just love that!

The other thing, too.. when you are looking at anybody else, they are ALSO His masterpiece.  I have a major problem with comparing myself to others, especially when it comes to the way I look.  I have better x than that person, but they have a nicer y than I do.  It’s not a competition!  They are a masterpiece, I am a masterpiece. There is no need to look at what everyone else is doing because God loves us all and we are all his masterpieces.  You are God’s masterpiece!!

There were other messages that I will remember about this weekend, but I think that was the main one.  And, since I’m still exhausted, I think it’s time for bed :p

Adventure is Out There!

I’ll leave you with a picture that shows the kind of “style” I had on the retreat.  I wanted to be super comfortable the whole time, so I wore a lot of hoodies, leggings, scarves and rubber boots!  It was a great weekend 🙂

Throwback Thursday: Random Pictures

I seem to have the worst luck when it comes to my photos. (or the best?)  And when I say that, what I mean is that for some reason or another, all of my photos end up being deleted for whatever reason.  When I first starting taking pictures with a digital camera, as soon as I posted them to this website I used at the time (which was not livejournal, it wasn’t deadjournal.. but it was similar to those.. I KNOW! It was greatestjournal. apparently it doesn’t exist anymore), I would delete them from my computer.  I would upload them and then immediately delete them.  I figured that they were safe online and that I would always have access to them.

Then, one tragic day, I went to upload some pictures on there and learned that I had been banned from the website for “inappropriate” photos.  Which, I’m sad to admit, were mostly party photos that I had taken with my friends at that time.. and a photo of people flipping the bird. (I don’t think they were all that bad, but what can you do?)  They deleted all of my pictures, and wouldn’t give them back to me.  It was very upsetting for me at the time, though now I kind of see it as a blessing in disguise.

I’m sure that there were a lot of pictures there that were great, and I would miss.. but there are some very specific pictures that I’m glad are gone:  the pictures from when my hair/life got ruined by someone in a hairstylist competition.  I have ONE picture that shows how short my hair was at the time, and it is this one:

I’d say this picture was taken sometime in 2004 or 2005?  That skirt was so fun! It fit weird though haha

After that, I started using a website called buzznet.  I recently (right before finals) discovered this website and saw all the pictures that I had forgotten about from 2005-2008/when I got facebook.

This is from that time:

Oh my. This is what I wore for Valentine’s Day in 2005 (before my hair was ruined) :/  Still love skirts, but wow.. it looks like I wore red tights under fishnet tights.

More proof of terrible hair in 2005!! :p

This “outfit” could definitely be worse.. but I feel like I took this picture because I had just returned from a trip and I wanted to show off one of my recent purchases.  (Also, oh dear at the bag of garbage on the back of my door!! haha)

Alright, that’s enough of a walk down memory lane/fashion don’t parade.  All for now!  I will definitely have to do this again though, it’s kind of fun to see how my style has evolved.

Weekend Style: Colts Leggings

On the weekend, I reserve the right to wear the same leggings both days in a row without shame.  The weekend I had, and the weather we had going on today, I definitely felt it was justified!

Sweater: the Gap
Leggings: Victoria’s Secret
Rubber Boots: an old roommate!!

I actually really like doing the laundry.  Folding things that are fresh out of the dryer is really comforting because they’re all toasty and warm.  I put my clothes away and depending on when I did laundry last, it’s like I got new clothes, without having to go shopping! Plus, as it’s usually cold in my parents place, I have plenty of toasty sweaters to put on to be super comfortable!

One final left and I’m home free (for two weeks!!)

Have a great week!

I have my first final exam this evening at 6:00pm, which means that I am missing youth, unfortunately.  Then I have two finals on Monday, and one next Friday!

When I was getting dressed this morning, it became apparent to me how I’ve been influenced by both the Spice Girls and The Nanny, two things that I have been looking at and watching a lot lately.  The collared shirt reminds me of Fran Fine, and the pink with the dress reminded me of Baby Spice, so I decided to put my hair in braids.  It’s really funny how the types of media you consume on a regular basis really inspire and affect the way you dress.

I also tried something different with my eyeshadow that I had seen on Pinterest last night!  I tried to do my makeup as close to this as possible! I think it looks pretty good 🙂  Plus, it was fun to do! The only difference is that I used silver instead of white, because that is what I had!

Literally counting down until I don’t have any more classes!!  It doesn’t really help me that I decided it would be a good idea to do an additional class over a weekend and a night at the same time as the end of term. Yikes! What was I thinking?

Wish me luck!!

40 Days of Kindness: Good Friday

Outfit Info: Dress: Second Hand
Leggings: American Apparel
Boots: Rooster on River
Belt: Pacsun

With only two days left before Easter (including today), I think it’s good to take a moment to remember why this weekend matters.  At my church, they had two services for Good Friday, and I went to the second one.  They showed a very interesting clip from a movie that I hadn’t seen.  Apparently, what they showed was not that bad, and not very gory.. but I still found it really graphic and disturbing.  It was from the movie “The Passion of the Christ”.  That movie came out during a season of my life where I wasn’t really a follower, and so I didn’t bother to see it.  Now, I don’t know if I could stomach watching that, considering the images I found graphic in the clips they showed at church were tame in comparison to the rest of the movie.

But I’m getting a little off track.  While I felt that the scenes they showed at church were gory and graphic, I understand why they showed them.  It is so easy to forget about the horrible things that happened in the days leading up to Easter.  It’s easy to gloss over the part with any pain, and it’s easy to imagine that Jesus died quickly.  I know that it says that he didn’t, and that the entire thing was very painful, but for a child you don’t really focus on that.  The focus is always how He rose again.  How He disappeared from the cave, and how He appeared to very specific people before finally showing Himself to his disciples.  It’s so easy to just focus on the nicer parts of Easter.  The bunny parts with chocolate.

I think it’s important to remember the not-so-pretty parts of Easter. The actual death.  So tonight, I will have a drink in memory.. then on Sunday, I will be able to say joyfully, Christ is risen!

ps: for my act of kindness for the day, my husband and I donated two HUGE bags of Oats to Winnipeg Harvest via the bin at our church! 🙂

Due to a particularly difficult conversation I had yesterday that I can’t stop thinking about (and won’t get into here), and an abundance of papers (both of which are now completed.. hence why I’m posting so late), the act of kindness I did today was one for myself.  A simple break.  I know that I was bad at it last week, but I don’t want to make myself feel bad because I didn’t do anything kind.  Partly because I feel bad enough as it is, and partly because … lets be real, I do kind things on a daily basis.  I don’t want to toot my own horn, but my husband would say that I’m already pretty kind.

Tomorrow is another day.  And hopefully it’s a day where I’ll feel better about this.

PS: My husband picked out my clothes for today! I think he did a pretty good job, too 🙂

Skirt: Old Navy
Socks: F21

Today was such a busy day, I almost forgot to post my outfit!  It started with church, which was really nice.. we sat at the front with a small group of some of our friends.  Then, we came home and I sat down and pumped out nine pages of an assignment (due Thursday, look at me! So early!!), then we went for dinner at my husband’s parents place.

I’m actually looking forward to this week! I have a lot going on, but it’s going to be so good 🙂  I have a few things due (and I’m finished 1.8 out of 3 of them), I have a few meetings lined up and I might even get to volunteer!  Plus, I get to hang out with some of my grade 7 girls on Friday, which is always super fun.

Hope your week is also amazing!

Alysa
