Dressember 2016: Week 2

The second week of Dressember went by, mostly, without a hitch.  We celebrated Festivus with our family, and generally stayed the heck inside because it was C-O-L-D COLD outside. That random cold snap has now seemed to pass (for now), thankfully! Hoping Christmas isn’t too cold.

Here’s how I wore my dress this last week:

plaid shirt: thrifted // necklace: Finity Handmade

sweater: thrifted // tights: Black Milk

socks: American Apparel

sweater: thrifted // leggings: Romwe

shirt: Bluenotes

shirt: thrifted // tights: Target // belt: thrifted

sweater: Billabong

scarf: gift // leggings: SweetLegs

Dressember 2016 has been flashing by.  There’s about a week and a half left of it.  So far, as a collective group, we’ve raised over $700kUSD!  It’s so amazing to be part of such a great organization, and I’m so happy to be able to contribute a little bit.  Wearing a dress is the easy part, the work that IJF and A21 do, that’s the hard part.  And the money raised will go a long way to help women who are stuck in human trafficking.

If you have it on your heart to donate, my campaign page is here. <3

Dressember 2016 – Join Me!

dressember 7

It’s almost December (yay!) and that means that it’s almost DRESSEMBER!  I’ve been participating in Dressember for a few years now, this year will be my fourth year participating and I love it.

Basically, you wear a dress every day for the month of December, and raise money to stop human trafficking and sexual slavery at the same time.  As a collective group, we’ve raised over $1.5 million (USD) in three years.  I believe the goal for this year is to reach another million!

So where do you come in?  There’s a few things you can do:

  1. Participate!
It’s so easy.  Sign up here.  You don’t need a million dresses to participate, just one.  This year I will be wearing the same one dress all year, and you can, too!  It actually makes it more of a challenge that way, because you need to find ways to keep your one dress stylish and fresh (as in, non boring 😉 )
  2. Join a team!
Here is the link to my team, Dresses in the Snow! You are more than welcome to join my team, even if you don’t actually have snow where you are.
  3. Donate!
If you aren’t sure about actually wearing a dress all month, or you know you wouldn’t want to participate, you can always donate to the cause!  Here is my personal Dressember campaign page. I would love a donation <3
  4. Share!
Not sure about participating, and don’t really have the money to donate?  I get it! Another way to help is to share on your social media! Tell your friends about my campaign or my team, and maybe they’ll want to join or donate.  Spread the word 🙂

If you have any questions, such as “I’M A MAN!” or “I HATE DRESSES” or “BUT I HAVE A WORK UNIFORM”, check out the official FAQ here!

SO excited for Dressember this year!
And be sure to check out my instagram, @Alysalovely!  I’ll be updating daily with my #ootd/#dressemberootd (that’s outfit of the day ;))

eShakti Dress Review

I was recently given the opportunity to review a customized dress from eShakti.com and I’m so excited to share my review with you here!

eShakti dress review eShakti dress review eShakti dress review

I was so excited when I was contacted by eShakti to review one of their beautiful dresses on my blog.  The entire experiences was really fun.  There were a lot of dresses to choose from, and it was difficult to make a decision.  Plus, it’s really cool how easy it is to customize each dress and make it your own.  I chose this dress because it reminded me of a Frozen/Belle crossover.  It’s not a colour that I normally wear, but I love how bright and vibrant it is.

When it came to customizing the dress, there were quite a few options, and again, I had a lot of fun choosing what to customize.  You could add pockets, change the hemline, change the collar, or change the sleeves.  It was so easy to make the specific customizations according to my style.  And, I really like how with eShakti, it’s not about a specific numbered size, and everyone has to fit into what that size is supposed to be.  eShakti is based on your body, and your personal measurements.  I really liked going through and choosing how I wanted my dress to look.  My dress also arrived very soon after it was shipped, which was amazing.  One of my pet peeves with ordering online is how long it can take, but this took no time at all to come. The quality of the dress is also really good.  I feel like I’ll be able to wear this dress for a really long time.

And great news! You can use the code ‘alysalovely’ to get 10% off your order from eShakti.com!  You can use the code until October 28, 2016, you can add it to other codes and use it as often as you like 😉
You can also check them out on Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter <3

I received this dress at no charge in exchange for my honest review, and all the opinions stated here are my own.

Half Moon Diner

On the way out to the retreat last weekend, we stopped at the Half Moon Drive In for dinner.  It’s such a cute little retro restaurant that I had to take some pictures.  We both got double bacon cheeseburgers (which, I thought that meant it was going to be double bacon.. it was double burgers haha) and milkshakes.  It’s a super cute restaurant and a definite must see in Manitoba (in my opinion).  Plus, it was just fun to go get something to eat at an interesting and unique restaurant.  And, I had never been there before.  It was great!

How’s your summer been?  We’ve been keeping ourselves busy.  There are always things to do, and people to see.. which is just the way I like it!  Plus naps to have, and chocolate to eat.  It’s been a great summer so far, and I’m excited for the rest of it.

A lot of it is being spent in our very own back yard.  It’s nice to have a pretty good sized yard that we can roam around in.  There are rocks to pick up, and sticks to look at, and a little red slide!  Perfect for a little girl in the summer.  And next year, it’ll be perfect for a little girl and a little boy.

Welp. I’m officially one week overdue.  Which is weird.  I never made it this far when I was pregnant with Autumn, so I’ve never been this pregnant before.  I’m totally and completely done though, it just seems like this little guy just hasn’t gotten that memo.  Hoping that he comes quick quick quick! I’m ready to hold him in my arms and snuggle him, and introduce him to Autumn, and show him off!

I’ve been basically living in maxi dresses lately.  I’m at the point of the pregnancy where I can’t be bothered to put lots of effort into what I’m wearing or makeup or things.  It’s tiring.  Plus, Autumn seems to be in a state where she constantly wants to be held.  Not that I mind, but it makes putting on makeup quite difficult.  I think she knows that a big change is coming!  I’m excited for her to be a big sister.

Wish me luck this week/keep us in your prayers!! I’m hoping this baby comes sooner rather than later 😉

Bump Update: 40 weeks!!

40 weeks pregnant // alysalovely 40 weeks pregnant // alysalovely 40 weeks pregnant // alysalovely

I usually post my bump day update on Wednesday (because it’s hump day/bump day), but since today is my actual due date, I thought I’d post a little bit early!  Maybe, and with any lucky, I’m giving birth as you read this. What!! Could be! I’m really hoping so 😉

I am officially totally full term, 40 weeks pregnant.  But it could go over, definitely can’t come early now.  At this point, this little bean is about the size of a pikachu!! I’ve been waiting weeks to say that haha He’s been moving a lot still, definitely running out of room in there.  I’m really excited to see the little feet that keep kicking me.  <3

I feel pretty ready to be done!  But, in the very least, I’m hoping I don’t go over too much… but it’s not really up to me.  I’m as ready as I can be, but it all depends on how ready he is! We’ll just have to see how the next few days go.. but your continued thoughts and prayers are so very appreciated! And wish me luck <3

Bump Update: 39 Weeks

39 weeks pregnant // alysalovely 39 weeks pregnant // alysalovely

dress: gifted // leggings: online

39 weeks pregnant // alysalovely 39 weeks pregnant // alysalovely

39 weeks, still pregnant!! Less than a week to the due date, and he still seems high so who knows when he’ll come.  Autumn came right on her due date, so a big part of me is expecting that might be the case again, but it’s hard to say.  I think that a Friday the 13th baby might be fun, too 😉

The baby is about the size of a full rack or pork back ribs, or a pumpkin.  He’s probably able to flex his limbs in there, so he’ll be showing everyone how to get to the beach in no time.  His brain is still rapidly developing, so I’ve been eating a lot of chocolate to help him out with that.  His nails may be long enough that they extend past his fingertips.  He’s moving around a LOT in there, and I’m still always feeling him move in more than one spot.  It’s funny, but it seems like he’s always got a lot of movements to do right when I’m going to bed.  Super handy for when I’m trying to rest haha.  It’s all good though, I love feeling him kick and move around in there.  He’s still head down, but he’s still pretty high up.

I’m at the point where I feel like I’m just about done.  I also feel like a ticking time bomb.  I have no idea when this baby could come.  I said a big part of me is feeling like it’ll be next Monday, on our due date… but who really knows?  He’ll come when he’s ready.  That’s all I know!  It’s definitely feeling more complicated being our second child, because something we didn’t have to think about last time is what we’d do with our first child when I’m in labour.  Makes it a little bit harder!  I got my B-12 levels back from my midwife, though, and they look great! We’re good to go at the birth centre and I’m SO happy and relieved and grateful.  It’s not that I had a terrible time giving birth at the hospital, I’m mostly just looking forward to a different experience, and especially a different experience with the after care aspect of it.  Looking forward to home visits from my midwife, especially especially since I have two now.

For the most part I’m feeling good though.  I’ve started doing this thing that has been so great where I take a nap/lie down and rest while Autumn naps.  I bring a little snack into the bed, and I read my book, and I do a sudoku.. and then I take a nap if there’s time before Autumn wakes up.  It’s so nice to be able to recharge halfway through the day.  I hope that it’s something I can kind of continue after the baby comes, just lying down with the baby instead of by myself.  We’ll see though! 😉

So appreciating any prayers for a smooth/quick/safe delivery, and I can’t wait to share all about it after it happens <3

Alysa

Approximately three weeks left.  Is it time to start freaking out yet?  I’m really trying to remember the way I felt this time last pregnancy, but all I remember is having a ton of schoolwork to do, and I think that kept me preoccupied enough that I didn’t feel too uncomfortable.  I am VERY uncomfortable this time, and I feel absolutely giant.  My midwife thinks that this baby will be bigger than Autumn was at birth, but then it’s common for boys to be bigger than girls.  We’ll see how it goes anyway!

This little chicken nugget is about the size of Zack Morris’ brick phone, or half a medium pizza!  He’s practicing sucking, inhaling and exhaling and he’s working on his very first poop haha.  He’s been kicking me and moving around lots, it’ll be weird when I won’t be getting those kicks anymore.  I think that he’s considered “full term” so he could technically come at any time, but there are still a few things I’d like to get done before that happens so hopefully it won’t be too soon 😉
