An Easter Basket for a Baby & a Toddler

Last year, I shared what we had in our one year old’s Easter basket (here).  This year, we have a nearly one-year-old and a nearly two-and-a-half year old!  Very different needs when it comes to their Easter baskets!  I know it’s a week after Easter, but I still really wanted to share.  I had so much fun putting them together!

First of all, can I just talk about how cute these little bunny baskets are?  I got the pattern from Sew Much Ado!  It’s a free pattern for personal use only, but here’s the directions to make your own!  I had only one bunny bag last year, and now that I have two kids, I needed to find a second one, or make two new ones.  I went with option B.  I really like the idea of Easter baskets that match each other.  Each child gets their own, but they also go together.  Also, if we have another baby, I can whip up a third one very easily.

Here’s what’s IN the baskets:

Toddler:
Easter Cup
I really liked giving my daughter a new cup last year at Easter.  So, I got them both similar ones for this year!  Unfortunately, last year’s cup didn’t last very long.  She dropped it and the lid shattered.  I hope to get more use out of the ones from this year.  They’re so much fun, especially with the curly straw!

Knit Bunny
I made knit bunnies for my shop as a free gift with purchase for those who purchased a bunny bonnet from me this spring, and while I was making those, I made a couple that were slightly bigger so I could put them in the Easter baskets.  You can find the instructions to make your own here!

Aero Lamb
I decided to get the same chocolate for the Easter basket this year as I did last year.  My daughter still isn’t having tons of sweets, and this was a nice small treat for her.  Plus, she’ll be getting a chocolate bunny from her Grandma, and she doesn’t need two! 😉

Big Girl Underwear
How much fun am I? I like to add these necessities in the Easter basket (and stocking) because she’ll need them anyway, and they’ll be fun for her to open up on Easter morning.

Shampoo
Told you I was a fun mom 😉 But for real, this shampoo has Frozen characters on it, so she’s going to love it.  She’s obsessed.  And she’s starting to have enough hair now that it might be a good idea to wash her hair with shampoo instead of the all in one baby soap.

Sunglasses
I was so excited to find these. My daughter has been really into putting on sunglasses lately, and these will fit her face!  She loved getting them and doesn’t ever want to leave the house without her glasses haha

The Story of Easter Book
Last year, I looked for a cute Easter book and I was so happy to find one this year!  It’s got a simple story that is easy for little ones to understand.  It also has great pictures.  It’s a lot of fun to read to them both.

Baby Basket:

Easter Cup
Aiden doesn’t really drink that much water out of cups just yet, so I thought this would be a great way for him to start learning, with his very own cup.  It’s also so cute, and it matches Autumn’s.

Knit Bunny
I made both the knit bunnies, and this one is Aiden’s! I loved the yarn I used, and I love how it turned out.

A Book of Bedtime Prayers
Such a cute little book.  It has gold around the edges of the pages, too.

Owlies
To be completely honest… I just put this in because his basket seemed a little … well… empty in comparison to his sisters.  I put this because he loves them and I wanted to give him something he could eat, too.  It actually worked out really well because Aiden didn’t really care about his basket at all, so I’m glad that we didn’t overdo it this year.

What did you put in your little ones baskets?

xoxo,
Alysa

5 on (Good) Friday

What’s good this week?  So many things!  It’s been exciting around here lately!  Lots of things to go to and lots of things to do, and lots of fun to be had.

01 // BUNNIES!!
It’s Easter on Sunday (yay!) and I have been selling quite a few of my bunny bonnets.  I love it!  I had a really great start to the month with the May Market group.  Can’t wait to show off what I’ve been working on for the MAY May Market 😉  There were a lot of bunnies hopping around the continent to a whole lot of babies, and it’s brought me so much joy to see the little bunnies in their bonnets.  🙂

02 // 10%
It’s been my goal as a small business owner to give back.  And so, I’ve been setting aside 10% of sales to give to a local charity!  I have chosen a new charity every month, and I’ve been collecting so that I can give at least $20 to that charity.  AND THIS MONTH I WILL BE ABLE TO ACTUALLY GIVE IT!! I like to choose charities that support babies, mamas, and pregnancy.  This month, my charity of choice is the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba NICU.  The NICU does such amazing work for the tiniest babies and I’m so happy that I’ll be able to donate some money to them this month <3

03 // Sub Zero
There is an ice cream shop fairly close to our house that we LOVE, that went up for sale this past winter.  Luckily, someone bought it and is keeping it an ice cream shop.  I LOVE it.  The new owners seem to be making some awesome changes and stepping up their game.  I could go on and on about Sub Zero, because it’s so great.  This past week we went there for the first time and Aiden had his very first taste of ice cream.  It was a lot of fun to see.

04 // Moana
We just got our copy of Moana from the Disney Movie Club and we LOVE it.  If you haven’t seen it yet, you really should.  We’re considering going as the characters from Moana for Halloween.  I love the music, I love the story.  It’s such a great movie.  Seriously, watch it!

05 // Happy Easter!
This is a long weekend, and it’s super great because my husband gets to have a four day weekend!  It’s going to be great to be able to spend so much time together as a family.  What are you up to this weekend?

xoxo,
Alysa

Five on Friday!

01 // May Market
I know it might seem like I’m talking about this quite a bit, but I am SO excited to share with you what I have in store for this months market! This month, it’s going to be TODAY AND TOMORROW!!  There are going to be a lot of Easter-y goodness in the market, and from Alysalovely Littles: BUNNY BONNETS!  I have three colours to choose from <3 Join the May Market group here!

02 // Pink eye
UGHHHHH.  THE WORST! What could be less fun than trying to give a squirmy, screaming toddler eye drops?  I can think of few things.  Last Thursday, Autumn woke up and could barely open her eyes because there was so much gunk there.  I felt so bad for her.  Her eyes were all puffy and pink.  I had a feeling that it might be pink eye.  So I did some research online to see.  I found that if it was pink eye, that it was likely bacterial, so we would need to go get some drops for her, with a prescription.  So, we bundled all up and walked to the walk-in clinic that is around the corner of our house.  The doctor looked at her for 1 second and said “yep, it’s pink eye” and we’ve been giving her eye drops.  She had to have them 3 times a day for 7 days, and thankfully, it’s all gone now.  But eye drops and toddlers do not mix.  Kind of like wrestling an alligator while trying to give said alligator a root canal.  NOT FUN! So glad it’s over.  And so glad she’s feeling better, poor thing.

03 // Decluttering for Lent/ 40 Bags in 40 Days
I have been MAJORLY slacking on this.  I have decluttered a few areas of the house, but I haven’t done it daily.  It’s been not that high of a priority, but at least I have it started a little.  I think I’m going to take it a little more casually for the rest of Lent and see how many bags I actually get.  I feel like I have a few bags in each area, so maybe that’ll make up for it?

04 // Buffy
Been watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer again lately.  It just celebrated 20 years since the premiere, and that makes me feel ridiculously old… but it’s still so good! I’ve heard rumours that it is being taken off of Netflix in April, so I’m watching as much of it as I can before then.  It’s just so good

05 // Spring!
It’s finally getting to be nicer weather outside, and I’m SO happy.  There’s still a ton of snow on the ground in our yard, so we’re spending time in our enclosed porch.. but the kids love to play in there and it’s sunny and warm, so it’s perfect.  What are you most excited for about Spring?

Alysa

01 // BUNNIES!
I’ve been hustling around here lately, trying to make something new to add to my etsy shop, Alysalovely Littles, and I’m so excited to say that these adorable bunny bonnets are listed!  You can check them out at the link just there <3

02 // Our poor dishwasher
Our dishwasher has been broken for over a week, and I know this is a #firstworldproblem but I miss it so much! I end up, usually, doing dishes multiple times per day, and so this is crazy annoying.  It makes me not want to do any dishes ever, which is not helpful at all, and more irritating.  But we’re getting a new one.. eventually.

03 // Riverdale
Are you watching Riverdale? Because YOU SHOULD! It’s SO GREAT!  It’s different from the comics, so if you’re expecting that it’s going to be exactly like the comics, you’ll be disappointed. But I love who they picked to play each character, and I just love it in general.  My fave new show for sure.

04 // Naptime
Y’all. Both my babies are taking naps during afternoon nap time and it is refreshing!  I get some time to myself and it’s amazing.  I hope it keeps up for a while.

05 // 40 Bags in 40 Days
Instead of doing my usual April Decluttering Challenge, I’m going to do this 40 bags in 40 days thing for Lent!  It’s so nice because while it does last a little longer, you also get breaks.  I’m not doing super great at it, but I’m trying.. and I think that is the important part 😉

What’s new with you this week?

xoxo,
Alysa

Bold

I’ve been writing this post in my head for a few days now. At the beginning of every year, I have been picking a word for what I want the year to be about and I’ve decided that the word for 2017 is BOLD.

I love all the definitions of this word. I want to be impactful, vivid, bright, strong, daring, brave, take risks & show confidence. I want to stand up for myself and others when things bug me. I want to make 2017 BOLD.

Now, to figure out how 😉

What’s your word for 2017?

Happy New Year!

Xoxo, Alysa

Five on Friday: Bye August

What a week, y’all! But then, I feel like I say that every time. Having 2 under 2 sure makes life busy 😉

01 // Having a vehicle
This week, I was able to use the car all week, and it’s been SO GREAT.  Andrew usually takes the car to work, so I am at home without a vehicle.  It’s not a big deal, and we are able to use the car when we need it for doctor’s appointments and things like that.. but overall, we stay home or go places we can walk to.  I plan to start taking the bus places, but anyway! This week we had the car, so I wanted to use it as much as possible.  On Monday, I went grocery shopping during the day. Awesome.  On Tuesday, we went to the library.  It was really fun, and I liked being able to let Autumn walk around there.  She likes being there, too.  On Wednesday, I went to pick something up from a buy/sell group person, and we went to Michaels.  On Thursday, it was raining, so initially I thought we’d stay home.. but we went to a thrift store that’s supposed to be good for records (and it was). And today, we’re going to visit my Amma and we’re having lunch with her! It’s been a great week.

02 // I bought a LOOM
One of the things I found at the thrift store yesterday was a wooden loom.  I need to figure out how to use it, but I’m excited to see what I can make with it

03 // Autumn’s getting a big girl bed
We bought a twin bed for Autumn last week, and she’s going to be switching to her big girl bed TONIGHT! Wish us luck.  I’m so excited for her though! My mom saved my old Beauty and the Beast sheets from when I was a kid, and we picked up a railing.  It’s going to be the cutest little bed.  <3

04 // Christmas
I know it seems a little early to be thinking about Christmas, but I don’t really care? haha I love Christmas!! My goal for this year is to be finished Christmas shopping by Halloween.  Aside from one or two gifts for like a gift exchange or something, which I won’t know who I have to buy for until November/December.  All the people I know I need to buy for, I want to have their present ready to go.  Last year, I did a thing where I purchased from local shops, or handmade gifts, and I want to do the same thing again this year!  I am starting earlier with the homemade stuff, because that does take time.  I’m excited with what I have so far 🙂 (And, for fun, there’s a picture of Aiden wearing one of his sister’s Christmas sleepers haha bc when your first baby is born in November, their Christmas sleepers might fit your second baby in August 😉 )

05 // Little Stitches by Brandi Little
I was chosen to be a brand ambassador for this amazing little etsy shop, and I made my first order this week!  I’m so excited to receive it!  You can visit her shop here! Isn’t everything just adorable?

Hope you have an excellent weekend!

xoxo,
Alysa

Five on Friday

What a week, y’all! Actually, more like.. what a couple of weeks.  It’s been so busy around here.  Andrew’s been working double time it seems, and I’m finally able to start doing more things around the house because my little one is allowing me to put him down more often.  He’s also started letting me put him down for naps and I can walk away and do things.  I love it, but at the same time, I love holding him while he naps.  It’s a struggle.  Here are some 5 things making me happy this week:

01 // Big Brother
I am OBSESSED with Big Brother.  We don’t have cable, so I’ve been finding ways to watch it the next day online.  Good lord yesterdays episode!  I’m excited to see all the drama on Sunday’s episode.  Wow.  Does anyone else watch Big Brother?  If so, who are you rooting for?  I love Nicole!  Paulie needs to go.  I actually like Paul.  And I LOVE James and Natalie.

02 // Potty training signs…
Autumn has been showing signs of almost being ready to use the bathroom.  It’s exciting and scary!  I’ll tell you what, I’m not quite ready for this.. but I’m glad she seems to be getting there.

cupshe seaside soiree shell bikini

03 // New Swimsuit
I’ve been wanting a high waist bikini for a couple of years now, and I think I found the one I’ve been waiting for!  Isn’t it beautiful?  It’s from cupshe, and you can find it here.  I’ve always wanted to be a mermaid, and this brings me one step closer 😉

04 // Beach Life
We were able to go to the lake last weekend, and I’m so happy we were able to! I love going to Victoria Beach.  Everything about it is my favourite.  It was a lot of fun showing Autumn the little things, too.  Andrew did a bunch of golfing, we went to the beach.  It was just lovely.

05 // Cursed Child
I was able to finish reading the newest Harry Potter book.  Definitely different than what I’m used to, but I loved it!  It was a fun read.. super easy and super fast.  I enjoyed it immensely.  I want more!!

What was your favourite thing about this week?

5 on Friday: End of July

1 // 2 months
If you can believe it, Aiden is 2 months old today! The last two months flashed by and I need time to slow down a little, k thx.

2 // Library
We went to the library this week and it was so much fun!  Autumn loved walking around and pulling books off the shelves to look at them for like 30 seconds and then reach for the next one.  I’m really happy with the ones we borrowed, too.

3 // Thrifting
I went to our nearest thrift store the other day and I am very happy with what I found. In particular: a HAIR CRIMPER!  I was very upset with my sister for getting rid of the one we had in the 90’s, but now I don’t have to be because I have my own.  We’ll see if it works, but that’s another story haha

4 // Prettified bookshelves
I have been sitting staring at my bookshelves for so long, thinking about doing this to them and I am  so glad that I did it! I love the way it looks.

5 // Iced Coffee
You know how it’s a mom cliche to forget you have coffee and leave it so long that it’s cold, and then when you go to microwave it, you find the mug that you microwaved YESTERDAY already in there.  So no coffee for moms, basically? Well, I’ve been combating that by having iced coffee in the afternoon and I love it! 🙂

What are your favourite things about this week?

Alysa

1 // Pokemon Go

Pokemon Go has now been available legitimately in Canada since last Sunday, but I have yet to actually get it to work. I think it’s my phone. It’s too old.  It looked like a lot of fun, and I’m so glad that it’s bringing a lot of different people together.  I missed the Pokemon faze growing up, too.. so I’m mostly okay with not being able to play this.  It would have been fun, but oh well.  Andrew has it and plays it, so I’ll play through him instead.  And keep using my phone for snapchat 😉

cloth diapers

2 // Adventures in Cloth Diapers

We’ve had Autumn in cloth diapers pretty much since she was born (aside from over Christmas that year, and for her first few meconium poops). And apparently, I had been doing something wrong with my wash, because the diapers were smelly, even right when they were “clean”, and they were starting to affect Autumn negatively.  When that happens, the thing to do is to do a full strip and bleach.  It’s a way to “reset” the diapers back to the way they were originally.  It’s not something you want to do all the time because it takes a really long time.  But the diapers smelled really bad, and I didn’t want her to be in disposables forever, so that’s what I did this week!

babywearing

3 // Babywearing to the Rescue

Especially with two kids, babywearing has been my saving grace.  I’m actually able to go out, take the kids to the park, go for walks, and, most importantly, get things done while my babies are napping.  It’s incredible and I love it.  My current fave is my Boba stretchy wrap.  It’s so handy and I feel that Aiden is super secure in there.  Plus, then I’m hands free to be a person and do stuff.  I love it!

mama's night out

4 // RAW: Winnipeg presents REVEAL

Last night, my friend had an art show through a group called RAW.  It was so much fun!  Not only was it a wonderful way to support a good friend of mine, but I also got to go out by myself… as an adult. Without a kid strapped to me. To a BAR!  It was pretty much amazing, and though I didn’t stay the whole time or for all that long, I will have to do things like this more often.  It made me feel like a real actual human person, instead of just the sidekick to my children.

5 // Alysalovely Littles

I think I’m almost ready to actually start something here!  A few months before Aiden was born, I got this idea to start a little side business, and I’ve been dreaming about it and working on it for a while.  I’m actually able to work on it on a more regular basis now, especially now that I can baby wear during naps.  If you want more updates on this, check out the instagram @Alysalovelylittles <3

Hope you had a lovely week!

Alysa

Our Canada Day Long Weekend

A photo posted by Alysa Friesen (@alysalovely) on

This past weekend was Canada Day, and it was lovely!  We were able to go to Victoria Beach and spend time with my parents, as well as one of my aunts and one of her friends.  It was a total blast!

A photo posted by Alysa Friesen (@alysalovely) on

My favourite parts were definitely on the beach, but here are some other highlights of the weekend:

  1. Playing Cards Against Humanity with my parents and my aunt!  My aunt’s friend had played before, but no one else had and it was a riot.  It was hilarious!  Plus, hearing some of the things on the card coming out of my parents mouths.  So much fun.  I wish I had taken more pictures haha
  2. Autumn had her very first face cookie from the VB bakery!  Last year when we went, she was too little to have cookies from there, so this was perfect.  And, of course, she loved it.
  3. Going to the beach!  And watching my daughter and husband play in the sand together, as pictured above.  So great!

How was your long weekend?

xoxo,
Alysa
