Aiden at 12 months

I don’t know if this is a real thing, but the last month of Aiden’s first year has flown by so fast that I didn’t even get a chance to share his 11 months update!  And it’s funny that this month has gone by so quickly, because this month last year went by SO FREAKING SLOWLY.  A side effect of having a two weeks late baby 😉  Now, he’s almost one!! It’s surreal.

Anyway! Some of the things he was doing at 11 months:

Aiden has been consistently sleeping through the night.  He gets up at about 7:30 every morning, and most days he even goes to sleep on his own.  For the most part, I nurse him to sleep, but sometimes he wants to go to sleep by himself.

He’s getting to be such a sweetheart.  He’s been saying so many words.  He said “duck”, “car” and “toy” this month. He likes playing with his sister, and reading books.  He started his first swimming lessons, and is unsure about it.  He’s not as upset about it as his sister was, but he’s still not 100% sure.

He’s been growing so much, and we love him so much <3  In about a week, I’ll share his 12 month update 😉

Currently Creating: What I’ve Been Making Lately

It’s been pretty quiet around here lately, and I’ve missed writing here.  I’ve just been on a roll with making bonnets for my etsy shop!  I’ve been doing a lot of summer bonnets, and I just love how they turned out, so I’d like to share with you some pictures of my most recent creations:

I’ve also started making things for Aiden’s first birthday!! I’ll share those after the party 😉

Aiden at 10 Months old

Ah, in 2 months my little one will be ONE! That seems too fast.  Not fair.

Anyway, this month Aiden has done a lot of new things!! He’s crawling everywhere, and he’s getting much much faster at it, too.  He loves to chase after his sister, even if it takes him a while to get there (running is always faster than crawling haha).  He has said a lot of words, such as read and duck!  He loves to eat, and his favourite foods are meat, potatoes, and whatever his sister is eating.  He’s been eating lots of muffins for breakfast lately because Cheerios are not as good, and not what Autumn is having. 😉

He’s in size 9-12 month/12 -18 month stuff, depending on the brand.  It’s weird for me, especially considering how much longer it took Autumn to get to those sizes.  But he’s outgrowing all the smaller things!

Aiden still only has two teeth, but he’s definitely working on more right now.  For the most part, he sleeps from around 8:00pm to around 8:00am, but sometimes he wakes up for middle of the night cuddles, which I am more than happy to give.

His favourite toys are his Fisher Price blocks, a monkey in a barrel toy we have, and cars.  He LOVES looking at books, and flipping pages on books.  His current favourite is Baby, Baby (which I reviewed here).  He loves looking at himself in the mirror,  he loves brushing his own teeth, and he absolutely loves playing with his big sister.

Aiden at 9 Months Old

Oh goodness, Aiden is already 9 months old.  I have basically already started planning his first birthday party, and that seems so surreal to me.  Especially when I look at my time hop from last year.  He’s been such an awesome addition to our little family, and I’ve loved seeing how he just fits in with everything.

This past month has been SO busy for him.  Aiden is now crawling.  He’s got TWO teeth.  He’s said a few more words, and he’s gotten to be very chatty.  He’s also very handsy. He loves grabbing at peoples faces, and hair, and all that fun stuff.

Aiden eats a LOT.  He loves food.  He gets very angry with me if I don’t give him his next bite fast enough.  He especially loves Owlies, chicken, and bread!  He could eat a whole bun, and then go on to eat more of other things.  He still wants whatever it is that his sister has.  So, if I try to give him a different food for breakfast than what she is eating… that’s a problem 😉  It’s cute.

Aiden is moving around a LOT!  He wants to explore everything.  If he’s playing with toys in one room and we go to the next room, he wants to follow us.  If he’s in the kitchen with me as I cook dinner, he wants to be right at my feet and touching me.  He’s a sweetheart.

This month, Aiden has started sleeping through the night!  He’s doing it more and more often, but every now and then he’ll wake in the middle of the night.  He’s also napping really well in his crib during afternoon nap time.  We’re still working on his morning nap though.

So looking forward to seeing what he’ll do next <3

Aiden at 8 Months!

Aiden is now 8 months old!! In such a short amount of time, we’ll be celebrating his 1st birthday (cue mama tears). It’s going by WAY too fast and I just can’t believe it.

This month, Aiden has done so much!  He said mama and dada (dada first, of course haha) and he said his first word: POOP!  He’s not crawling, but he spins in circles and backs up really well.  He loves reaching for your face and reaching for toys.  He loves watching his sister play.

Aiden’s current favourite foods are anything Autumn is eating, and lucky for him, she likes to share her food with him.. whether she should or not.  Specific foods he likes are chicken, sweet potato, and the baby cookies I make.  He HATES salmon, and he has mixed feelings about broccoli.

Aiden’s favourite toys are his o-ball car, and his little people toys.  He likes looking at and waving to himself in the mirror.  He likes waving at everyone!

He’s overall such a happy little baby, I love watching him grow <3

Aiden at 7 Months

December just zipped by, and this baby is now 7 months old!

He’s growing so fast, too.  He’s outgrowing a lot of his 6 month stuff, and getting into the 9 month sizes and the 6-12 month stuff.

Aiden loves to eat!  He’s even started to get  jealous when he sees that Autumn gets to have something and he doesn’t have anything.  We usually give him breakfast and dinner of solid foods, but now he’s starting to ask for something to eat at lunch time, too.  He likes pretty much everything we give him.  He had a really funny reaction to broccoli, but still ate it!  The only thing we’ve given him that he wasn’t fond of was a certain spaghetti sauce, but it was a little spicy.

Aiden’s favourite toys are his Star Wars tsum tsums, and anything with wheels.  He really likes to pick things up and drop them, or get me to pick them up and then he drops them.  He’s not quite crawling, but he’s managing to maneuver himself around somehow.  I’ll put him down and when I come back in the room he’s in a different spot than where I left him.

Aiden is still waking up a couple of times a night.  He’s a really good cuddler, and he loves nuzzling into our shoulders.  He’s pretty laid back, he likes people watching, and he especially likes watching his big sister.  She is very interesting.  He doesn’t like being left alone for too long though. He’d rather be where the people are.

So excited to see what the next month is going to bring <3

Aiden at 6 Months

Aiden is 6 months old, aka 1/2 of a year old!  I made Autumn a 1/2 year birthday crown when she was 6 months old, so I did the same for Aiden, too!

Aiden is such a sweetheart.  He loves cuddling, he loves being held, and he loves hugging his sister (/being squashed by her).  His little personality is certainly starting to shine through.  He has a LOT to say, and he likes to say it LOUD.  He loves to try to eat my hair, and he loves giving kisses.  He is really bouncy and energetic.  He’s also really observant. He likes to be able to see what is going on all the time.  It’s hard for him to sleep if there is something else going on.

We have started baby-led weaning with him, and he is really into eating.  His current favourites are sweet potatoes, chicken, and grandpa’s meatloaf.  If we’re eating anything, he wants to be eating it, too.

He loves playing with his sister.  His favourite toys are anything that rattles or squeaks! He loves his Sophie Giraffe.

We’re especially excited to be able to celebrate Christmas with him this year.

Alysa

Tea for Two – 2nd Birthday Tea Party!

My little girl just turned TWO, and to celebrate we threw her a tea party!

This year, we kept it on the smaller side, so we could have a sit down lunch.

Tea for Two, Second Birthday Tea Party

We set it up so that two tables could fit into our dining room, and then I filled each table with food.

Tea for Two, Second Birthday Tea Party

I put up a wall of pictures of Autumn from the last year.

I made a big floral A for Autumn

For lunch we had fancy sandwiches (cream cheese, egg salad, and chicken salad), bruschetta, and fruit skewers.

For dessert, I made cupcakes, and sugar cookies, and we had Polish candies, vinatarta, and cream puffs and nanaimo bars (not pictured).

Aiden at 5 months

5 months old 5 months old

So… a few weeks ago… Aiden turned 5 months old!  (But then Halloween happened, and Autumn’s birthday, and this post got put on the back burner, so to speak haha)

Aiden is growing so much! He’s mostly in 6 month stuff, but in some 6-9 and some 6-12, depending on the brand.  He’s constantly on the move and he is so strong.  If we’re holding him, he wants to be upright, and he wants to be standing (with help).  He’s always kicking and always moving something.  Aiden has gotten to be VERY grabby.  He loves to grab at toys, books, coffee mugs, my hair, ANYTHING in front of him.  He has a very strong grip, too.

His favourite thing is to watch his sister.. he’s started grabbing at her, too.  He loves to listen to her talk to him, and he loves to watch her play.  He’s not yet crawling, but he’s moving so much that I have a feeling it will be soon that he’ll start trying.  His favourite toy is the Happy Driver toy (which is a steering wheel and dashboard), and he loves being held.

Aiden is still sleeping about 95% of the night in his crib, which is great.  He had a bit of a rough patch or a sleep regression, but seems to be back to sleeping normally.  We have our lovely bedtime routine, and it’s really working for all of us.  Aiden celebrated his first Halloween and went as Pugsley Addams!

Supported In Breastfeeding: Book Review + Free PDF

It’s 3am, and I’m sitting in my son’s nursery.  It’s quiet, with only the small amount of light coming from a little owl lamp on his bookshelf.  My husband is asleep, my daughter is asleep.  It feels like it’s just us two.  I’m tired (exhausted), but I love this.  I love cuddling my little one and helping him fall back to sleep again.  I love holding him in his sleep, and I love knowing that I can give him everything he needs in this moment.  This is what breastfeeding looks like to us, right now.

But, breastfeeding didn’t always look like that for me.  It can be hard.  It can be painful.  It can be stressful.  Sometimes I accidentally flash an entire room of people without trying.  Sometimes, I don’t care because I need my baby to eat.  Sometimes it feels as though I am all alone in this.

And that is why Supported In Breastfeeding is such an important book for breastfeeding moms.  If you’re breastfeeding, or planning on breastfeeding your baby, you should read this book.  Because none of us are really alone in this.  We’re all going through very similar things with breastfeeding.  Whether your baby takes to it immediately, or you struggle with it.. we’re all in this together.  Supported In Breastfeeding has 20+ stories from real life moms who have been right where you are, and that was so encouraging to read.

As I read through this book, I could relate to so many of the different stories.  I found myself nodding along with all the struggles and triumphs that these breastfeeding mamas described.  I felt so connected to the women in the book, even though I’ve never met any of them.  Their stories are so similar to my story.  I would recommend this book to any woman who wants to breastfeed their baby <3
