Aiden at 9 Months Old

Oh goodness, Aiden is already 9 months old.  I have basically already started planning his first birthday party, and that seems so surreal to me.  Especially when I look at my time hop from last year.  He’s been such an awesome addition to our little family, and I’ve loved seeing how he just fits in with everything.

This past month has been SO busy for him.  Aiden is now crawling.  He’s got TWO teeth.  He’s said a few more words, and he’s gotten to be very chatty.  He’s also very handsy. He loves grabbing at peoples faces, and hair, and all that fun stuff.

Aiden eats a LOT.  He loves food.  He gets very angry with me if I don’t give him his next bite fast enough.  He especially loves Owlies, chicken, and bread!  He could eat a whole bun, and then go on to eat more of other things.  He still wants whatever it is that his sister has.  So, if I try to give him a different food for breakfast than what she is eating… that’s a problem 😉  It’s cute.

Aiden is moving around a LOT!  He wants to explore everything.  If he’s playing with toys in one room and we go to the next room, he wants to follow us.  If he’s in the kitchen with me as I cook dinner, he wants to be right at my feet and touching me.  He’s a sweetheart.

This month, Aiden has started sleeping through the night!  He’s doing it more and more often, but every now and then he’ll wake in the middle of the night.  He’s also napping really well in his crib during afternoon nap time.  We’re still working on his morning nap though.

So looking forward to seeing what he’ll do next <3

Aiden at 8 Months!

Aiden is now 8 months old!! In such a short amount of time, we’ll be celebrating his 1st birthday (cue mama tears). It’s going by WAY too fast and I just can’t believe it.

This month, Aiden has done so much!  He said mama and dada (dada first, of course haha) and he said his first word: POOP!  He’s not crawling, but he spins in circles and backs up really well.  He loves reaching for your face and reaching for toys.  He loves watching his sister play.

Aiden’s current favourite foods are anything Autumn is eating, and lucky for him, she likes to share her food with him.. whether she should or not.  Specific foods he likes are chicken, sweet potato, and the baby cookies I make.  He HATES salmon, and he has mixed feelings about broccoli.

Aiden’s favourite toys are his o-ball car, and his little people toys.  He likes looking at and waving to himself in the mirror.  He likes waving at everyone!

He’s overall such a happy little baby, I love watching him grow <3

Aiden at 7 Months

December just zipped by, and this baby is now 7 months old!

He’s growing so fast, too.  He’s outgrowing a lot of his 6 month stuff, and getting into the 9 month sizes and the 6-12 month stuff.

Aiden loves to eat!  He’s even started to get  jealous when he sees that Autumn gets to have something and he doesn’t have anything.  We usually give him breakfast and dinner of solid foods, but now he’s starting to ask for something to eat at lunch time, too.  He likes pretty much everything we give him.  He had a really funny reaction to broccoli, but still ate it!  The only thing we’ve given him that he wasn’t fond of was a certain spaghetti sauce, but it was a little spicy.

Aiden’s favourite toys are his Star Wars tsum tsums, and anything with wheels.  He really likes to pick things up and drop them, or get me to pick them up and then he drops them.  He’s not quite crawling, but he’s managing to maneuver himself around somehow.  I’ll put him down and when I come back in the room he’s in a different spot than where I left him.

Aiden is still waking up a couple of times a night.  He’s a really good cuddler, and he loves nuzzling into our shoulders.  He’s pretty laid back, he likes people watching, and he especially likes watching his big sister.  She is very interesting.  He doesn’t like being left alone for too long though. He’d rather be where the people are.

So excited to see what the next month is going to bring <3

Alysa

Aiden at 6 Months

Aiden is 6 months old, aka 1/2 of a year old!  I made Autumn a 1/2 year birthday crown when she was 6 months old, so I did the same for Aiden, too!

Aiden is such a sweetheart.  He loves cuddling, he loves being held, and he loves hugging his sister (/being squashed by her).  His little personality is certainly starting to shine through.  He has a LOT to say, and he likes to say it LOUD.  He loves to try to eat my hair, and he loves giving kisses.  He is really bouncy and energetic.  He’s also really observant. He likes to be able to see what is going on all the time.  It’s hard for him to sleep if there is something else going on.

We have started baby-led weaning with him, and he is really into eating.  His current favourites are sweet potatoes, chicken, and grandpa’s meatloaf.  If we’re eating anything, he wants to be eating it, too.

He loves playing with his sister.  His favourite toys are anything that rattles or squeaks! He loves his Sophie Giraffe.

We’re especially excited to be able to celebrate Christmas with him this year.

Tea for Two – 2nd Birthday Tea Party!

My little girl just turned TWO, and to celebrate we threw her a tea party!

This year, we kept it on the smaller side, so we could have a sit down lunch.

Tea for Two, Second Birthday Tea Party

We set it up so that two tables could fit into our dining room, and then I filled each table with food.

Tea for Two, Second Birthday Tea Party

I put up a wall of pictures of Autumn from the last year.

I made a big floral A for Autumn

For lunch we had fancy sandwiches (cream cheese, egg salad, and chicken salad), bruschetta, and fruit skewers.

For dessert, I made cupcakes, and sugar cookies, and we had Polish candies, vinatarta, and cream puffs and nanaimo bars (not pictured).

Aiden at 5 months

5 months old 5 months old

So… a few weeks ago… Aiden turned 5 months old!  (But then Halloween happened, and Autumn’s birthday, and this post got put on the back burner, so to speak haha)

Aiden is growing so much! He’s mostly in 6 month stuff, but in some 6-9 and some 6-12, depending on the brand.  He’s constantly on the move and he is so strong.  If we’re holding him, he wants to be upright, and he wants to be standing (with help).  He’s always kicking and always moving something.  Aiden has gotten to be VERY grabby.  He loves to grab at toys, books, coffee mugs, my hair, ANYTHING in front of him.  He has a very strong grip, too.

His favourite thing is to watch his sister.. he’s started grabbing at her, too.  He loves to listen to her talk to him, and he loves to watch her play.  He’s not yet crawling, but he’s moving so much that I have a feeling it will be soon that he’ll start trying.  His favourite toy is the Happy Driver toy (which is a steering wheel and dashboard), and he loves being held.

Aiden is still sleeping about 95% of the night in his crib, which is great.  He had a bit of a rough patch or a sleep regression, but seems to be back to sleeping normally.  We have our lovely bedtime routine, and it’s really working for all of us.  Aiden celebrated his first Halloween and went as Pugsley Addams!

Supported In Breastfeeding: Book Review + Free PDF

It’s 3am, and I’m sitting in my son’s nursery.  It’s quiet, with only the small amount of light coming from a little owl lamp on his bookshelf.  My husband is asleep, my daughter is asleep.  It feels like it’s just us two.  I’m tired (exhausted), but I love this.  I love cuddling my little one and helping him fall back to sleep again.  I love holding him in his sleep, and I love knowing that I can give him everything he needs in this moment.  This is what breastfeeding looks like to us, right now.

But, breastfeeding didn’t always look like that for me.  It can be hard.  It can be painful.  It can be stressful.  Sometimes I accidentally flash an entire room of people without trying.  Sometimes, I don’t care because I need my baby to eat.  Sometimes it feels as though I am all alone in this.

And that is why Supported In Breastfeeding is such an important book for breastfeeding moms.  If you’re breastfeeding, or planning on breastfeeding your baby, you should read this book.  Because none of us are really alone in this.  We’re all going through very similar things with breastfeeding.  Whether your baby takes to it immediately, or you struggle with it.. we’re all in this together.  Supported In Breastfeeding has 20+ stories from real life moms who have been right where you are, and that was so encouraging to read.

As I read through this book, I could relate to so many of the different stories.  I found myself nodding along with all the struggles and triumphs that these breastfeeding mamas described.  I felt so connected to the women in the book, even though I’ve never met any of them.  Their stories are so similar to my story.  I would recommend this book to any woman who wants to breastfeed their baby <3

To My Daughter on Her 2nd Birthday

to my daughter on her 2nd birthday

My dear Autumn,

You turned two today! Which feels almost impossible because I’m pretty sure you were just born.  These last two years went by so fast, but especially this last year.  You’re growing up, and it’s much too fast.

This past year, you started walking, you started talking more and more, and your little personality is shining through even more.  It’s so much fun when you let us know exactly what you want, exactly the way you want it.  This year, you got your big girl bed, you got to go to Touch-A-Truck, you made so many new friends!

This past year, you gained a little brother.  He is one of your favourite people, and you love to bring him toys (and take them away), wipe his mouth, and kiss his cheek or hands.  He is totally captivated by you as well.  It’s amazing to see how much you two love each other.

You want to do and see everything, you just love to explore your world.  Whether we’re at the park, the library, or in our own back yard.. all you want to do is check everything out and see how things work.  You especially love walking around and around in our house.

You have so many favourite things right now.  You’re obsessed with anything that has to do with bunnies, or boats.  You love Disney, especially Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Beauty & The Beast, Zootopia and Frozen.  You love to sing “Let It Go” and “Beauty and the Beast” in your sweet little voice.  You love to take care of your baby doll, and you enjoy feeding her just like mama.  You still love books, and you love colouring at your little table in my studio.

I love you so much, and I’m so excited to see how you change and grow over the next year <3

xoxo,
Mama

Baby Review: Bummis Diapers!

bummis diaper review

Recently, I recieved a set of cloth diapers to review.  I’ve been cloth diapering Autumn for nearly two years (eek!) and I love using cloth diapers!  I received two diapers from BUMMIS, one that is an all in one, and one that is a swim diaper.

bummis diaper review

First of all, how freaking adorable is this diaper.  I almost didn’t want to put a bathing suit bottom on to cover it up! It’s so cute.  It works perfectly for swimming in any kind of water.  And I love that it’s gender neutral, so I can use this with either of my children.

I need to gush over how adorable this diaper is as well.  I love the little woodland creatures on this diaper, and Autumn had fun pointing out the fox and the owl and birds.  She is really into animals right now, so this diaper was really fun for her to wear as well.  Plus, the cuteness!

I had never used an all in one before, and I must say that it’s so easy to use.  Lately, I have been stuffing the diapers after I wash them, and that takes extra time.  With an all in one, it’s pretty much ready to go right out of the dryer.  I don’t have to do anything extra with the liners or anything.  It makes cloth diapering that much easier.

I also really loved learning about the company that makes these.  BUMMI is a Canadian company that uses fabrics sourced in North America.  It’s made right in Montreal!  I love that about these diapers.  They use organic cotton, and believe in sustainability as well.  Overall, I really enjoy these diapers and I think I need to get more, too 😉

Aiden at 4 months

4 month old 4 month old

My little gentleman is 4 months old!

It’s crazy how fast time is going by.  He’s growing so much and learning so much every day.  He’s currently sleeping most of the night in the crib.  He wakes up a few times in the night for cuddles and to eat.  He knows how to roll from his back to his stomach and back again, which has made for some scary little moments when he’s tried to roll off the bed.  He’s very strong and loves kicking.

Aiden’s favourite song is Rainbow Connection.  He likes watching his sister do ANYTHING.  A new thing that he’s doing is, if he’s fine but he sees Autumn getting upset, he starts getting upset, too.  It’s like he sees that she is upset and thinks “Oh, is this what we’re doing now?” and gets upset with her.  Even if he was previously totally happy.  It’s very cute.

He’s currently in sizes 3-6, as well as 6 months and 9 months clothes, depending on the brand.  He’s the sweetest little guy.  He loves to laugh, he loves to grab at toys and my hair.  He loves to be held.  Aiden’s favourite toys are Captain Calamari, and any toy that is colourful and makes noise.  He also loves to suck/chew on his wrist or my wrist.

Can’t wait to see what the next month has in store for us <3

Alysa
