An Easter Basket for a Baby & a Toddler

Last year, I shared what we had in our one year old’s Easter basket (here).  This year, we have a nearly one-year-old and a nearly two-and-a-half year old!  Very different needs when it comes to their Easter baskets!  I know it’s a week after Easter, but I still really wanted to share.  I had so much fun putting them together!

First of all, can I just talk about how cute these little bunny baskets are?  I got the pattern from Sew Much Ado!  It’s a free pattern for personal use only, but here’s the directions to make your own!  I had only one bunny bag last year, and now that I have two kids, I needed to find a second one, or make two new ones.  I went with option B.  I really like the idea of Easter baskets that match each other.  Each child gets their own, but they also go together.  Also, if we have another baby, I can whip up a third one very easily.

Here’s what’s IN the baskets:

Toddler:
Easter Cup
I really liked giving my daughter a new cup last year at Easter.  So, I got them both similar ones for this year!  Unfortunately, last year’s cup didn’t last very long.  She dropped it and the lid shattered.  I hope to get more use out of the ones from this year.  They’re so much fun, especially with the curly straw!

Knit Bunny
I made knit bunnies for my shop as a free gift with purchase for those who purchased a bunny bonnet from me this spring, and while I was making those, I made a couple that were slightly bigger so I could put them in the Easter baskets.  You can find the instructions to make your own here!

Aero Lamb
I decided to get the same chocolate for the Easter basket this year as I did last year.  My daughter still isn’t having tons of sweets, and this was a nice small treat for her.  Plus, she’ll be getting a chocolate bunny from her Grandma, and she doesn’t need two! 😉

Big Girl Underwear
How much fun am I? I like to add these necessities in the Easter basket (and stocking) because she’ll need them anyway, and they’ll be fun for her to open up on Easter morning.

Shampoo
Told you I was a fun mom 😉 But for real, this shampoo has Frozen characters on it, so she’s going to love it.  She’s obsessed.  And she’s starting to have enough hair now that it might be a good idea to wash her hair with shampoo instead of the all in one baby soap.

Sunglasses
I was so excited to find these. My daughter has been really into putting on sunglasses lately, and these will fit her face!  She loved getting them and doesn’t ever want to leave the house without her glasses haha

The Story of Easter Book
Last year, I looked for a cute Easter book and I was so happy to find one this year!  It’s got a simple story that is easy for little ones to understand.  It also has great pictures.  It’s a lot of fun to read to them both.

Baby Basket:

Easter Cup
Aiden doesn’t really drink that much water out of cups just yet, so I thought this would be a great way for him to start learning, with his very own cup.  It’s also so cute, and it matches Autumn’s.

Knit Bunny
I made both the knit bunnies, and this one is Aiden’s! I loved the yarn I used, and I love how it turned out.

A Book of Bedtime Prayers
Such a cute little book.  It has gold around the edges of the pages, too.

Owlies
To be completely honest… I just put this in because his basket seemed a little … well… empty in comparison to his sisters.  I put this because he loves them and I wanted to give him something he could eat, too.  It actually worked out really well because Aiden didn’t really care about his basket at all, so I’m glad that we didn’t overdo it this year.

What did you put in your little ones baskets?

Alysa

Valentine’s Day Ideas for Parents

Valentine’s Day is coming up and as a parent of little ones, sometimes that means figuring out a date night for after bedtime, right in your own home!  I love stay-in date nights, especially in the winter, because you don’t have to go anywhere, you don’t have to go out in the cold, and you don’t have to scramble for a sitter. Win-Win!  Here are a few ideas for the perfect Valentine’s Day Date Night In <3

This post contains affiliate links. If a purchase is made through the use of one of my recommendations, I may receive a small commission, which would be a lovely little blessing for my family

Alright, let’s set the scene.  The kids are in their beds, they’re actually asleep!  It’s Valentine’s Day. You and your significant other go to the dining room to enjoy a romantic Valentine’s Day Date Night In.  What do you need?

01 // A pretty candle to make your after dinner desert romantic
I like having a candle burning of ambiance, but especially on Valentine’s Day!  We’ll have a nice dessert and a hot beverage, and have a candle going!  It’ll be so lovely.

02 // Matching Couples Mugs for your coffee or tea
What’s better than Luke & Leia quotes for your Valentine’s Day Date?  The lines are classic, plus, it’s really cute to have matching mugs <3

03 // A game to play for two
What could be more romantic then trying to get your affections known by the princess?  Love Letter is a fun game to play with two or more, so it’s perfect for a date night with your love.  It’s also really easy to play, and quick, so it works well if you don’t have a lot of time to play!

04 // A gift to personalize for your love
It’s fun to write cute messages to each other, and this journal is even cuter because you can write in whatever you want in an adorable package!

05 // Couples Pillowcases … to end the night 😉
I love the idea of matching pillowcases for the bed, and these are just darling!  <3

What are your plans for Valentine’s Day?

Our Verse for 2017

For the past two years, I’ve done the ~Word of the Year~ thang, and shared it in my blog.  This years word is BOLD.  Another thing we’ve done as a family for the past two years is choose a verse to go along with that word!  Here is the verse for 2017

“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength
They will soar on wings like eagles
They will run and not grow weary
They will walk and not grow faint”
– Isaiah 40:31

Last year, our verse had to do with starting a new journey.  We knew we were going to be looking for a new place to call our home church, and we knew we were starting out on something new.  This year, the word we thought of when we were praying over what verse we should put in this spot was strength.  We found our new church and we have begun making friendships and connections there.  We want to strengthen our friendships and relationships with the people we’ve met in 2016 at our new church, as well as with our friends.

It’s tough making friends, especially as a mom with little ones.  I have found that this is definitely a time of life where the phrase “for a reason, a season, or a lifetime” comes up a lot.  There are friends we don’t talk to as much anymore, and there are friends who have become even closer to us in this time.  I’m so grateful for the people in my life who have stuck by me through the pregnancies and births of both my children.  It means so much to me, not only that they’re still wanting to spend time with us, but also how much they love and care for my children.  This year will be about strengthening and developing those relationships <3

Our Christmas Tree 2016

I love our tree this year so much.  It’s HUGE!  Andrew went on the first day they were available, and picked the tallest one he could find.  It was packaged so nicely that it led us to believe that it would be a tall skinny tree.  Well, we unwrapped it and KA-POW! GIANT!  It takes up so much of the living room, but I don’t care. I love it so much!

And every year Christmas with Autumn is more fun than the last.  This year, she’s more aware of things.  She was there when Andrew brought home this tree, so any time anyone mentions the tree, she talks about how Daddy brought it home haha. It’s really cute!

Mama’s Christmas Wishlist

This post contains affiliate links. If a purchase is made through the use of one of my recommendations, I may receive a small commission, which would be a lovely little blessing for my family

At Christmas, it’s so easy for moms to think only of what they need to do for others.  I think it’s important for mamas to think of things they need and want at Christmas-time as well.  Someone needs to buy presents for mama, too.  And, if my family is any indicator of others, the only present that daddy needs to buy is for mama anyway, so we may as well make our list very good.

Here are some ideas for things to get the mamas in your life (and mamas, be sure to link this to your husband so they know what to get 😉 )

01 // A Lovely Candle

I LOVE Candles, and this Maple Syrup Candle with a Crackling Wooden Wick
would be so great! The Canadian in me approves!  And this one looks like it would last a really long time, which is so nice.

02 // Bath Bombs

I LOVE Bath Bombs! It’s so relaxing, and so fun when it makes the bathwater pretty colours.  And funny when it leaves a bunch of glitter all over the tub.  Bath bombs are the best and I wish I had this Bath Bombs Gift Set
right now.

03 // Christmas Tea Towels

I’m sure this is more specific to me, but I realized recently that I don’t have any Christmas themed tea towels for the kitchen.  I have Halloween ones, and Fall ones… but not Christmas ones! This is a problem that needs to be rectified. And this Twas the Night Before Christmas Story Kitchen Tea Towel set is too cute!

04 // Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay

How beautiful is this book? I need it to complete my JK Rowling collection.

05 // Coffee!

What every mama of two needs, coffee coffee coffee! Gift cards, beans, anything! 😉 As long as it’s Starbucks Coffee, I’m happy! 😉

What is on your wish list for Christmas this year?

Alysa

Mama & Me Halloween Costume Inspiration

Halloween is next Monday, and as a mama with a couple of littles, I really enjoy dressing up with them for things.  I know a lot of mamas have stuff during the day that they take their little ones to, such as a mama and me class, so I thought it would be fun to think up some last minute costume ideas for a mom to do with her baby or toddler!  All of these costumes have the option to add the dad, and you can even wear these on your own.. so you have the option of going trick-or-treating with your child in co-ordinating costumes, and then go to an adult Halloween party without your child 😉

Mama & Me Halloween

Alice in Wonderland featuring the White Rabbit!  Both mama and baby get to wear really cute costumes, plus Alice individually still makes sense as a costume!  If you want to add the dad, he could dress up as The Mad Hatter or the Cheshire Cat.
Mama & Me Halloween

Princess Leia and Baby Yoda is perfect for any Star Wars loving mama.  To add the dad: Han Solo!

Mama & Me Halloween Costume

The classic glam look, Holly Golightly and her cat, the aptly named Cat.  To add the dad: the up and coming writer Paul Varjack, or random 1960’s suitor 😉

What other costumes could you do to coordinate with your baby?

Alysa

What We Wore: Halloween

It’s almost Halloween! I’ve been working like a busy little bee trying to make our Halloween costumes for this year.  I’m no where near being done, but I have all week, so it’s all good, right?

I thought I’d share some of the Halloween costumes we’ve worn in the past.  My husband and I like to dress up together, and since we started having kids, we love dressing up with them, too!

Arrested Development Halloween Costume

Halloween 2011 – We went as Lindsay Bluth-Funke and Tobias Funke (specifically after he “blue” himself)

The Beckhams Halloween Costume

Halloween 2013 – The Beckhams!

Game of Thrones Halloween Costumes

Halloween 2014 – Daenerys Targaryen and Khal Drogo,  This one was a lot of fun! I was pregnant with Autumn at the time, and decided to go with the “Mother of Dragons” theme

Little Red Riding Hood Family Costume

Halloween 2015 – Little Red Riding Hood, Granny & the Huntsman!
The focus of this costume was obviously Autumn’s costume haha 😉

What are you going to go as for Halloween this year?

xoxo,
Alysa

2 Questions to ask yourself before putting on the bikini

2 questions to ask yourself before putting on the bikini

She was afraid to come out of the locker, she was as nervous as she could be.
She was afraid to come out of the locker, she was scared that somebody would see…

You know the song.  The Itsy-Bitsy-Teeny-Weeny Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini.  It was the first time she wore it out in public and it’s clear from the lyrics that she was NOT comfortable, and she didn’t want anyone to look at her.  In the 1960’s, when the song came out, bikini’s were just starting to come into popularity and the song actually boosted their popularity among mainstream culture.  After that, everyone “needed”
to have one. Even people who didn’t like them felt that they had to wear them.  That is not ideal though!

It’s halfway through the summer, but the pressure to don a bikini is still pretty strong. Before you put on a bikini this summer, ask yourself these two questions:

  1. Do I want to wear a bikini?
  2. Am I comfortable in a bikini?

If the answer to either of these questions is a big giant NO!! then don’t wear one. If you feel comfortable in a bikini, and you WANT to wear a bikini, you should totally wear one!  Otherwise, don’t spend your time on the beach hiding in the locker, under a blanket or in the water.  That’s no fun!

Every year, without fail, there are articles and magazine covers that scream “How to get a bikini body” or “Are you beach body ready?” and when it comes down to it, if your body is at the beach you have a beach body.  If your body is in a bikini, you have a bikini body.  If you don’t want to go to the beach or wear a bikini, that’s okay too! Do what will make you happy and comfortable. You will enjoy your summer more by far if you are comfortable 😉

xoxo,
Alysa
