Since it’s April tomorrow, and since I’ve been thinking about doing this since before my daughter was born, over five months ago, I think it’s time to do a Declutter challenge! You may have heard it be called a minimalist challenge, or something along those lines. I’m going to be doing that kind of challenge as well, except I’m going to be doing it a bit backwards.
The way I’ve seen it done is on the first day, you get rid of one thing, on the second day, you get rid of two things, and so on and so forth. I am going to be doing it a little bit different. On the first day, I’m going to get rid of 30 things. On the second day, I’ll get rid of 29 things, and so on. I’ll get rid of the same exact amount of things as doing it the traditional way (and maybe even more), and I’ll take advantage of how keen I’ll be on it by getting rid of more things at first. Then, when I run out of stuff to get rid of (haha we’ll see if that even happens), I’ll “have to” get rid of less things per day.
1. Bring things to the thrift store/consignment store/etc weekly.
It’s not realistic to go every single day, especially with a baby, so I think that going once a week is a pretty good amount.
2. Bring garbage outside to the garbage can daily.
There is no point in keeping garbage in the house, right?
3. Avoid buying things!
This will be the toughest part I think, but what is the point of doing a declutter challenge if I’m just going to be adding clutter in other areas? It doesn’t make any sense!
4. Feel good!
In my opinion, less clutter = less stress. If I’m in a cluttered room, it feels stressful and I always feel much better when everything is away and organized. This will be a great way to accomplish that!
Who’s with me? 😉 You can follow along on my Instagram @Alysalovely, I’ll be sure to update it every day with the kinds of things I’m getting rid of. Share with the hashtag #AprilDeclutterChallenge for encouragement!
