I love Sex and the City. I love Carrie, I love Charlotte, I love Miranda and I love Samantha. Their stories, their clothes, their men, it’s so great. Every few years I have a rewatch (MINUS the second movie, I like to pretend it doesn’t exist) and I recently rewatched it again. It put it in a whole new perspective watching it with a child in my lap (am I a bad mom? 😉 ) but I still really enjoyed it.
Here are 5 reasons why I think YOU should rewatch it, or watch it for the first time if you haven’t.
1. the Friendships
Something that struck me the most when re-watching this show, was the friendships between Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha. They all support each other to the end, even when they don’t necessarily agree with the other persons choices. For example, when Carrie cheats on Aidan with Big. Her friends clearly do not agree with her actions, but they support her when her and Aidan break up. They have fights, at times, like most friends do, but when it comes down to it, they support each other and I love that part of the show.
2. the Fashion
You can’t have a post about Sex and the City without talking about the clothes. There are lots of high fashion designer items that they wear, but there are also lots of vintage stuff. They were one of the first shows that filmed the shoes first, and one of the first shows that changed the way they filmed it to include as many full body shots as possible. While some of what they wore was a little bit over the top, you have to give them credit for pushing the envelope with their fashion choices. Plus, I love the shoes! It’d be nice to be able to afford those brands, but just looking at them on the show is almost as good, right? 😉
3. the Relationships
Big, Aidan, the Russian. Steve. Richard and Smith. Trey and Harry. So many relationships (and non-relationships) that were just great. But I believe, hands down, that Harry was the best guy on the show.
4. the City
You can’t watch this show without wanting to be in New York City! I was lucky enough to go there 5 or so years ago, and watching this show made me feel quite homesick for it, I loved it there so much. Plus, I love the fact that they showed real restaurants and locations in the city. Great for those of us who were only able to visit, we can re-visit through this amazing show. Gah, I want to go back so bad!
5. the Cameos
Sarah Jessica Parker, Bradley Cooper, Vince Vaughn, and so many others. One of the things that I LOVE about watching older tv shows like this is being able to spot the extras/small parts that were played by actors who are now super famous. There is a more complete list of famous cameos here, but it’s definitely worth watching just to see all the current celebrities before they were as famous as they are now.
Enjoy every moment! And really, don’t bother with the 2nd movie.. it’s crap 😉
